4th and 5th grade ELA... Building a community of readers and writers!
ELA students have been filling their Readers and Writers Notebooks with high level thinking and creative writing based on the story HOLES by Louis Sachar. Today's activity involved creating a new character to join the boys at Camp Green Lake. Characters included a spy from the FBI, a girl disguised as a boy, and a camper allergic to dirt. The students had a great time inventing these characters, and I hope they choose to use them in a story of their own one day.

STEM
STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics education. On Fridays, third grade students participate in STEM activities in Mrs. Ellison's homeroom. Our first lesson focused on engineering, and the students had a blast with it! I observed some great teamwork! Way to go third grade!
Let's get to know each other!
Second and third grade Academy students work collaboratively on Fridays... So we spent some time getting to know our new friends.
